Yes indeed, it is all a matter of perspective, looking at the above picture, what you don’t realise is that each of those desktops are the same size!

Ok so that is bollocks, but I hope you are enjoying the view of my Nokia N97 + Asus EEE PC + Samsung 32” LCD. Each one has a very important part to play in my working set up at the moment, as you can see below…

All that tech, and still probably the most important thing is the note pad and pen… weird hey?

This is kind of bad, is Grand Theft Auto 4 on the Xbox 360. I have had the game since very close to when I bought the Xbox last year. I got stuck though, and haven’t played it for a long time. But recently I thought what the hell and got it out to see how it looked on the new TV.

It looked good… and played good… and I got through where I was stuck. I have now completed the entire story, with just the additionally activities to go. You would think this means I can spend less time on it, to the contrary I spent around 12 hours on Saturday doing the 50 stunt jumps. Completing all 50, and being told there was one more to do didn’t help, meaning I had to go back through and check them all again. Who would of thought it would be the last one I checked that was the missing one? Well almost everyone in my house thought that would be the case… smug buggers. Luckily exactly the same happened to one of my other housemates who had his TV lined up next to mine playing the same game doing the same jumps. Sunday, was spent on the car thefts and vigilante missions…

Anyone would think this is the end of the insane geekery, but no, it potentially gets worse. The other thing I am spending my rare home time doing, mainly the evenings when in bed, is watching Doctor Who. I’m not talking about Christopher Eccleston or David Tennant, I mean William Hartnell, the first ever doctor. It is very different but exactly the same all at once. Obviously the production quality is poorer, this stuff was filmed in the 60s, where ‘retake’ was an unknown word. There are a number of funny vocab slip ups which the cast correct themselves on, its quite realistic really. The Tardis makes exactly the same flying noise, the music is the same, the bad guys are more rubbish and the Doctor isn’t as genius. But you can see the building blocks for what turns into one of the greatest long running series ever.

The adventurous plan is to watch ever episode, which is approximately 600 over 26 series, there are some which I wont watch, as the BBC don’t have them anymore. Apparently an old protocol meant they threw away films from over 30 years ago, there are a few of the old episodes which I have which are simply the audio with still images and some annotations. These ones are painful and I will not bother watching those!

So call me a loser in the comments below if you must…

After a little research, and some advice from people here there and everywhere I settled myself on a Samsung LE32B530.

Saturday saw the first Doctor Who special of the year, titled Planet of the Dead. Well I thought it was good. And I really liked Michelle Ryan, I hope she gets more involved in future. The only sour point was her exit at the end, but that’s life I guess.

The story was a lot cleverer than it first seemed, not to spoil anything, but I was slightly afraid that a comment from a non fan who I was watching it with was going to become a very sensible comment: “Why not just drive a tank through and get them?”, I’m glad that the story went onto outsmart that…

Lee Evans fit in strangely well, was he a candidate to be the new Doctor at any point? He surely has the right attributes, manic, funny, crazy and slightly odd looking.

For those who haven’t seen it you can watch it on IPlayer until the 19th April, alternatively you can watch it below. IPlayer doesn’t officially allow embedding content so I don’t know if it will work, when I fiddled earlier it didn’t appear to have any volume, thought I’d leave it there for the fun of it anyway though…

Simply put Helena Bonham Carter seems to get a very strange range of roles. In the very late Nineties she played Marla Singer in Fight Club, a suicidal messed up character who has no value to her life.

Since then she has hooked up with Tim Burton and worked on nearly all of his newer productions (usually along with Johnny Depp). Corpse Bride:

Sweeney Todd:

Not forgetting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland which is currently filming.

There is a definite link here with the dark films and then Tim Burton’s dark style to everything he does. What is strange to me is her casting in kids films / programs, like Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Were-Rabbit:

Lots of Harry Potter action too… all in all we love you!

That’s what the TV is calling them at-least. I don’t understand how watching football on BBC is so much better than watching it on Sky and worlds better than Setanta. The commentators are generally worse, with the obvious exception of Andy Gray who needs to be shot, will probably do a separate post about him when I have the displeasure of having to listen to him next time.

Onto the actual game then, as I write this there is still another half an hour left (probably less by time I get around to publishing). Seems to me that either Sheffield Utd are pussies and are going down hurt for no reason or, as per a usual game with Middlesbrough, they are getting kicked left right and center. Another normal thing for a Middlesbrough game, Downing is a waste of space. His only tactic is to kick the ball past people then run into them to get a free kick and get the guy booked. Very impressed with Alves tonight, about time he looks fit and dangerous. If him and Mido get their attitude sorted its a very dangerous top line. Shame they will still have Wheater and Pogatez at the back, easily the ugliest, dirtiest and generally awful centre back combination in the league. Remembering that this league has Wes Brown in it….

Come on the Blades
